review 1: I liked the first one ok, even though it seemed like the author thought 1900 was the same as 2014 in terms of slang. But this one was, sadly, worse than the first. At least the first one had some semblance of a coherent plot. This second took a bunch of stories and threw them together, seemingly with no rhyme or reason. It just didn't flow well. I liked the concept of the ending, but I wouldn't read it again.
review 2: Book 2, The Glass Magician was far more interesting and enjoyable than Book 1, The Paper Magician because it was action packed (except for the first boring chapter about her birthday party at her parent's house.)and had some more character involvement. Ceony is impulsive and continually runs off to save the world rushing into trouble without w
... moreaiting for experienced magicians to protect her from harm. However, there were times when I as the reader acknowledged that the magicians should have consulted with Ceony and explained the plan to keep her safe since she was the one involved in the trouble. If you didn't fully understand what they were going to do then how could you sit back and wait for them to fix the situation. Grath and Saraj are the two villains in this book, although I believe this book only needed one villain. There is one chapter that is done from Emery's point-of-view that happened right after a big scene involving Ceony that could have been eliminated because it was meaningless to the overall plot (especially since I believe only one villain was necessary). I hate when books do a point-of-view of someone that is not the lead character - I don't care what you are thinking; go away so I can read more about Ceony.I still don't understand why anyone would want to be a Paper Magician when you have to worry about paper getting wet or crinkled. "Folding had its limits in defensive spells." Even Emery switched from a paper shield charm to a steel-cast charm. I would much rather be bonded to something else other than paper, if I ran head-long into trouble like Ceony. This book was far more enjoyable to me than the first book."You're a candle that won't be snuffed, and now the darkest parts of this world can see you. And they don't tolerate the light." 'Ceony nodded, both the young Folder's words could only comfort her so much. They were a threadbare blanket against a winter storm. No matter how tightly Ceony wrapped it around herself, she could do nothing about the holes.' less
