review 1: I am a huge Charlotte Bronte fan, and this collection is just fantastic. Makes me smile over and over; I hardly even have to revisit the stories to relive them, Charlotte's storytelling makes such an impression that I feel as though I've lived them. The characters are extremely lifelike, the situations and emotions described so raw and intense that they're extremely difficult to forget. This collection is my favorite book that I own, by far.
review 2: I read Jane Eyre and liked it quite a lot but less than her other books, Villette, and Shirley. It was a more dramatic version of Anne's Agnes Grey. I liked Jane Eyre up to the point where she had to run away and she lived with a country family who turned out to be related to her. From there the book dragged. It's
... more a bit over-rated.I read The Professor, which Mrs. Gaskell had said was inspired by Charlotte's teacher over in Belgium, who she'd fallen in love with, though it was unrequited. It's an honest little book, and takes one back to a lonely era. The ending is too sentimental and prolonged.I've read quite a few of the family poetry and it's wonderful. less
