review 1: I didn't so much read this as swiftly plowed through trying not to feel too hungry for all the decadent old fashioned treats that I really can't indulge in at the moment... but that was extremely hard. The photos are exceptionally good. I found several recipes focusing on brown sugar, which really intrigued me, like a tomato brown sugar refrigerator jam, and a banana bread that was heavy on the brown sugar. Will definitely try those!
review 2: A great collection of Southern inspired sweets and savories. The authors own and operate a bakery in Savannah that has a big following, including Paula Deen (who wrote the foreword). Interspersed between recipes are fantastic tips and anecdotes. I learned a lot about spices and flavorings from the tips (vanilla beans t... moreo flavor sugar is so simple, but so brilliant at the same time). Highly recommend for anyone looking for a fantastic, flavorful dish. less
