review 1: I've read a lot of the old-west romances and they nearly all start and end similarly, with plot differences in between where there's conflict, then the guy decides he loves the girl and they get married and have babies at the end. This one is sweet, well written and just enough plot differences to keep your attention all the way through. Makes you smile and doesn't make you roll your eyes, like some do. So I liked it.
review 2: Linnea has only ever known hardship and abuse in her life. She finds herself alone and penniless and grasps the opportunity to work for Will Tucker, who needs a cook and housekeeper for his remote ranch. As Linnea is sent by Will's sister he expects a good sturdy woman to do the chores. When Linnea arrives he is shocked to see a small and
... more - to his mind - fragile woman. He instantly decides to send her home and abruptly tells her so. Linnea is used to being knocked back, but decides to clean the messy kitchen before she leaves in the morning as a way of repaying the inconvenience and being allowed to stay overnight. Will is shocked to see the sparkling kitchen, but packs her into the wagon to head back to the station. He senses that she needs the job and something about her touches his conscience, so he decides to give her a chance to prove herself.Linnea works hard and surpasses all expectations, even forming a bond with Will's difficult and aging step-mother. The hands love her and Will had to grudgingly admit to himself that there is a lot more to Linnea that he thought.Their feelings for each other grow and secrets and lies from the past emerge. Linnea blossoms in her new home and Will allows himself to emerge from his armour. The development of the characters and the love they develop for each other is a joy to read. This is Cheryl St John at her best. less
