review 1: Not sure if it's because this was set in Venice or not but I liked this one in the series the best. Victoria is involved but to a lesser extend than before but it's in a good way. This story revolves around a convoluted request by a mystery woman for Charlie to 'return' something to a Count but he has to do it in a reverse burglary scenario. Ewan does a really good job of planting seeds to send you thinking in one direction and then changes things up. While it's completely frustrating sometimes because Charlie is a numbskull when he gets tunnel vision on his theories, it does work out in the end. I guess it's just hard for me to see what Charlie sees and to move forward without answers to questions....I don't see where there is another in the series so not sure if thi... mores is it or not.
review 2: Charlie Howard, a crime writer and former (well...) thief, gets ripped off. His signed first edition Maltese Falcon is stolen by a woman who wants to ransom it to get him to get her out of a jam. He gets blown up by a bomb, gets drugged by a guy in a balaclava (love that word), spends some time in a casino, escapes on a train, has the stolen money stolen, but gets his book back. A little worse for wear. less
