review 1: I will be the first to admit I began this book because of Coco. While I really liked the tense the book was written in (different, but appropriate to the story, I felt), I'm not so sure I'm happy with the story. It took most of the book before they truly began their affair, and it wasn't even a good one. They had such great faults in the novel: she was headstrong and almost selfish and he was shy and almost embarrassing. I really found myself hating the both of them towards the ending, (I mean, honestly, especially at the end, they were IDIOTS) and sympathized more for Catherine than the two main characters. In the end, Catherine had the best qualities and she seemed like she had the chance to be happy and find joy. She was the bigger person. I must admit though, I dislike... mored her up until the very end.I think mostly what I didn't like about this book was the fact that I didn't really like any of the characters. I was so conflicted with all the characters that I felt it caused me not to emotionally connect to the book. Without an emotional connection to at least one character, I'm just not going to enjoy it as much as I would with another book.
review 2: A very intriguing read about a relationship I didn't know about previously. My understanding is that is has been embellished for the novel, but I like historical fiction and didn't mind that the author was twisting facts to tell the story. I think you need to be able to suspend the reality yourself in order to really enjoy historical fiction.Chanel's and Stravinsky's genius is what brings them together, tears them apart, and yet binds them forever. Their relationship was interesting and complex, and both are shown as flawed people who make some questionable decisions. An interesting 'fly on the wall' kind of approach to this subject. less

I wasn't too excited to read this after seeing some of the reviews, but I really enjoyed it.

I really wanted to love this book but I found it to be superficial and without passion.
