review 1: loved it! banyan is a great kid .. I loved all the characters . heck I even liked crow .well I guess not frost but he had a purpose :) .. its such a possibility that something like this could happen.. no trees not even a blade of grass.. its possible.. I think its crazy all they went through to find Zion .. and the locusts how freaky ! I absolutely cannot wait for #2 ! I've never read anything like this .. its so original . I loved it to no end.. its the first book I read cover to cover in a matter of hours in a long time.. every page there's another piece of the puzzle.. another bit of pain in your stomach that they live like that and fear for them too.. I think this is a great read ! two thumbs up .. er .. scratch that.. hell why not make it six thumbs ... moreup !!
review 2: I loved this. The concept is fresh, the writing amazingly simple and enjoyable. The characters leap out from the pages and you can't but care. The world is sharply drawn, easy to picture and ... fear. This is the sort of book that sounds alarm bells deep inside yourself. Sharp, ugly things are transformed into gossamer and there are passages infused with such delicate soul ... I got chills. Loved it, loved it, loved it. less

I was sort of surprised how much I enjoyed this. Not the most complicated plot, but creative.

A good post-apocalyptic novel for hippies.
