review 1: I listened to this book and feel I would have enjoyed it more had I eye read it. There were a ton of characters and the plot went back and forth in time with no notice to the listener. Consequently, I had to constantly re-listen to a chapter in order to figure out who was doing what, when. The plot involves the murder of a host of people, something I also felt was far-fetched. I liked The Expats better.
review 2: Like other reviewers have said, it skipped around so much I had a hard time keeping track of the characters and their stories. I actually started over again about a third of the way through. It just seemed like so much work, I was hoping to be rewarded by the ending. But the ending was such a non-ending, not satisfying at all. Just made me feel
... moremanipulated. The Expats made me feel sort of the same way, but I liked it a lot more. It was really exciting seeing the protagonist survive by her wits, only to find out in the end that the people she was outsmarting were either there to protect her or monitoring and manipulating her the entire time. So it just cancelled out my enjoyment--it was never real. less
