review 1: Genre: BiographyCopyright Date: 2011I really appreciate Chris Van Allsburg's illustrations. This story is a wonderful biography about Annie Taylor, who was the first person to ever ride over Niagara Falls in a barrel. She is famous for this feat, but I love the way that Van Allsburg captures her story and her spirit in his wonderful black and white illustrations. I really enjoyed reading about Annie in this book. It was an enjoyable biography.
review 2: Chris Van Allsburg has been a Todd Family favorite for well over 20 years (before "The Polar Express"). This particular book is based on a true story about the first woman to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel. Who know she was a 60+ year old washed-up charm school teacher who just needed money? Well, now ... moreI do. Van Allsburg's illustrations are what draws me to his books...some don't even have words. I highly recommend any and all of his books to families, kids or young at heart grown-ups. less
