review 1: I really liked this book. I read a review saying the only likable characters were Blessing and the Grandma. This is kind of true, but the point is to show how these people appear to Blessing, as a child. Blessing realizes later how we lie to ourselves about people's true natures. I enjoyed reading about this family, despite their flaws and felt I learned more about Nigerian culture than I had known before.
review 2: I enjoyed the book, the story is funny, witty and interesting. The story of Ezekiel is so universal, I see what happened to him, happen even in South African. I also found the relationship dynamics between mama and Blessing interesting and how granny came into the picture as a bridge. I loved Dan's character, am not sure about the ending though...
... morebut it got me crying for sure. Celestine also put a smile on my face. less
