review 1: I liked this as a cute little beach read, but I also had some issues with the story. I wasn't a big fan of the main character who despite her otherwise strong personality seemed to be unable to stop her mother-in-law, Deena, from intimidating her into changing her mind when it came to wedding decisions. In fact, I found Deena as a whole an unpleasant character with her meddling and inability to compromise and she wasn't supposed to be. And for all the talk of this being a fusion wedding, in the end I thought it was far more Indian and Deena got her way anyway.
review 2: Erin is on cloud nine because she is engaged to possibly the most handsome man on earth, Jay Keskar. They are about to get married and Erin is determined to have a perfect British wedding. Every
... morething has been finalised; flowers, venue, food, wine, and reception- you name it and it’s all sorted. Just when she is sure that nothing can stop her from having the dream wedding she got the biggest surprise of her life. Jay’s parents have made their own little changes to the wedding without their permission, they want the traditional Indian wedding for their only son. Now there is going to be sagai, mehendi, sangeet, sanji and of course mandap. And if it’s not enough then Erin might have to pack away her beautiful white wedding gown and wear sari on the D-day. In middle of all the family drama, Jay’s best friend Nalisha has arrived from New York and had made Erin’s life a living hell. This wedding is not going to be easy but one thing is for sure that there is going to be a lot of hungama. This book is fantabulous. It’s light and funny. Christina’s writing is fresh and so exciting. I loved Erin and I loved Jay’s parents even more. They are typical Indian parents, dominating and emotional blackmailer. Don’t forget that I am Indian too and I can see my parents in Jay’s parents; they are so damn similar. less
