review 1: Where has the Christina Skye who wrote the Draycott Abbey and Code Names series gone? What's with this trend of featuring insecure, timid women who've gone out into the world, failed, then decided that they're hopeless until a man tells them they're worthwhile?It feels like mainstream contemporary romance fiction is regressing--at least among established authors who used to write self-confident female lead characters as their trademark.Olivia is an architect. Earning an architecture degree is more rigorous in some ways than earning an engineering degree. Her meekness is inconsistent with her academic and professional achievements, which ruined the whole story for me. Olivia and Rafe's rich good girl/poor bad boy backstory felt entirely predictable.
review 2: A ... moregood writer is defined by the characters she creates, and Ms. Skye creates fully faceted, multi dimensional, likeable, believable characters. It is easy for the reader to understand their motivations and actions and become emotionally involved in their stories. Christina Skye is that author. That being said, I felt a little lost when I dove into this story. Evidently I would have been less confused had I read The Accidental bride. I will go back and read it now, but I wish I had known it was out there. This book doesn't stand alone as well as it should.The story itself was well plotted, The characters strong, the pacing even, and the romance superb. Do yourself a favor and get both The Accidental bride and Butterfly Cove. *I received my copy from NetGalley.com in exchange for an honest review. less
