review 1: One of those culinary books rather more appealing in the ideas and techniques it imparts than in the actual recipes for execution. The basic premise of the milk bar seems to be grounded on selling people childhood nostalgia especially the sugar powered aspects of childhood. Most notable and interesting is many ways is the cereal milk - most people seemingly identify with the idea that the milk at the end of the cereal bowl infused with the flavours of whatever crunchy product was doused with it is the best bit or at least so we remember it. The Momofuku folks have run with this and sell pre-infused milk for those too lazy to eat the cereal. This basic gets recycled in various ways in the book along with a bunch of other sweet treats that are mostly pretty impractical to ex... moreecute as described but do trigger ideas for a simplified home version.Christina Tosi tells a good tale and there is plenty of nostalgia filled narrative in here to keep the reader amused. I found myself not only recalling my childhood memories but living some of hers vicariously.Asa straight book it's a 3 star but for the uniqueness and nostalgia it gets a 4.
review 2: This was an interesting cookbook. I did not have a chance to make any of the recipes but I was intrigued by the unconventional pairing of ingredients and I love cookbooks that give you some nitty-gritty science behind baking and cooking. I would not say this a book for beginner bakers. It was more of an artistic appreciation of Momofuku Milk Bar and the kitchen sink creativity of Christina Tosi than a book you grab again and again to cook from. less

Helps me step up my baking game...and my pants size. The corn cookies are completely evil.

Interesting browse. Not sure the recipes are something I'd make on my own at home.
