review 1: Yikes. Well, at least the blurb made it sound interesting. Other than that, I can't say too many good things about this. Instalove that even I couldn't stand, plot holes abundant (like why were those other...Damned? vampires constantly attacking their house? Why didn't Robb die when his wife died? Vampire rules...they kinda seemed just like regular people other than drinking bagged blood). It just seemed a bit all over the place. I don't know, it was just a rough story to get through. ETA: Oh yeah, and Smith seemed to be perfect at EVERYTHING. Oh voila, he can cook and fight and kick ass. No flaws here.
review 2: This one didn't do much for me, sorry. I wanted to like it but it just wasn't happening. First there were a lot of errors, missing words, wrong word
... mores and the sentence structure was awkward in a lot of places, not wrong, just awkward and reading it felt like driving down a dirt road (if you've never done that BUMPY is the word you are looking for here). I seem to remember a few sentences that made no sense at all to me. I'd go back and fetch my comments and highlighted sections, but I think I was feeling pretty vicious at the time, so it's probably best not to. The vampire main character...he seemed likable at first, but then he kept telling us how he loved his kids even if they weren't his blood, they were really his kids. I have an adopted brother, and except for something like this, that never comes up. My dad never says he loves EVEN THOUGH he isn't his blood. It never occurs to any of my family that he isn't blood. He is. Just not technically...see the confusion? lol He's my brother, my dad's son period. So that bothered me. The next big thing is here is his wife, his chosen mate, he loved her, they were happy together. Six months after her death, he finds his true mate and now basically she meant nothing. He doesn't seem to miss her anymore, he doesn't even really seem to care about her anymore except in some vague offhand way. OH! and apparently he was never straight to begin with, that is why things weren't that satisfying between them (of course that seems to come out of the blue also). What was wrong with him being bi? For that matter why do we have to define the crap out of everything? He was married to and loved a woman, now he will be married to and love a man. Maybe I'm nitpicking. Probably I'm nitpicking. There wasn't a lot of substance to the characters. The vampire used to be married and had nine kids, I don't really remember learning anything else about him. The human was raised among vampires, could cook and kick ass, that is all I remember learning about him. So there's my long-winded opinion. *shrug* less
