review 1: This is the first French historical novel I've read and I enjoyed it immensely. Trent delivers an engaging, believable France, set during The French Revolution. Her writing is so skilled; I found myself adoring and then loathing Claudette's childhood lover and Monsieur Greycliffe is an intriguing love interest. And his proposal to Claudette later in the book is one of the most romantic I've ever read and I'm not a sappy girly girl. LolMy one suggestion would be to hurry along the opening chapter, in which Claudette becomes an orphan. And that's my only complaint! I'll be reading more of her work soon.
review 2: Decent book - good story. I was sucked into the book immediately. I liked the character development very much, and there were certain parts of the book
... more I didn't want to put down. The author did a decent job of invoking some "real" characters (like Madame Tussaud and Marie Antoinette) - but when she went into detail about the French Court and started dropping names left and right, I began to lose interest. All in all, decent read. less

hmmm, it was OK, but the story took a while to do what it did. For that I gave it the rating.

I liked this book very much. It's about the French Revolution but not a whole lot of history,
