review 1: This book has it all - friendship and a dragon and Chinese characters. For children wanting to dip their toe into the world of Chinese characters, this book will give them the perfect opportunity to discover how some characters relate to their meanings. The neat thing about it, beyond exposing kids to the language, is that there is a good story, as well. The only problem is that for each character, only an English meaning is given - no Chinese pronunciation. However, as the note at the beginning of the book explains, the point of the book is not to function as a Chinese lesson; rather, it is designed to introduce children to the language in a simple manner.

"The Pet Dragon" presents different Chinese words and what they mean throughout the book.This would be a great book to use in the classroom when featuring a lesson on China. I thought it would be especially useful because of the use of actual Chinese words. less
