review 1: The book did a good job glossing over the entire family history. The bibliography alone is worth looking at. This work is a lighter read than The House of Medici Its Rise and Fall also by Hibbert. The first half is more breadth than depth while the second half gets into more documented history of Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia. This is a good work to pair with G.J. Meyer's The Borgias: The Hidden History.
review 2: Hmm, while it was enjoyable enough and an easy read (especially in comparison to some books I had to read for my history degree!), the authors way of throwing in sentences, that couldn't possibly be noted anywhere and no one could say for certain actually happened, for effect, drove me insane. One example when he was describing a court appearance for
... more Rodrigo Borgia's daughters wedding, and the author described Borgia's son as glancing around unhappily...really?? That's noted down somewhere is it?? It wasn't either a true historical fact driven book, nor was it historical fiction, but ill give him credit that it was well written. less

Very descriptive, like an academic text book. O stopped at 1/3. It was boring.

Nothing ground breaking, but it is a really nice easy read on the Borgias.

Interesting (hi)story, but a very dry style.
Janet
Not the worst biography I've ever read

Good read, blood, intrigue and more.
