review 1: I was drawn to this book because of the title, Sacre Bleu, sacred blue. I first heard this term while reading a Hardy Boys book to my son. For that entire summer, we would constantly use the exclamation, Sacre Bleu, with a French accent, of course. The book combines fantasy, historical references, art criticism and humor in a rather crazy melange. Because many of the characters are historical figures, I had to keep reminding myself that this was a work of fiction. The humor is a mix of irony and laugh-out-loud moments. Give it a try! review 2: I'm a sucker for France, Paris, the Impressionists, and, especially van Gogh, so this book probably got more of my attention than it deserved. Particularly since van Gogh wasn't really in it. Also I think Christopher Moo... morere is best listened to, not really read, and maybe only when narrated by Fisher Stevens. Toward the last third of the book it dragged and I wanted the main characters to simply die by any means just to end it. less
