review 1: Great start of the series.Each book of the volume starts with some information about one of the new heroes.I loved Finesse, the one "non-powered" individual.I small ding in that they mention that Reptile and Tigra have history but it wasn't until I read the profiles at the very end of the volume that it tells me where to find that. When did the comics stop putting the editor notes in it.Reptile was a pretty great character for someone that started out as an annoying comedy relief on the Marvel Superheros cartoon.
review 2: This is your standard "young team of misfits squabbles as they learn to use their powers" set up that goes all the way back to the original X-men. Unfortunately, there's not much that's fresh here to recommend it. The slight twist is that th... moreis group has been rescued from being tortured and put to ill purposes by Norman Osborne. Instead of being trained as heroes, the adults in charge really hope to prevent them from being super villains.But that's a familiar idea too, going back to Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch joining the Avengers. And this group doesn't really have much of a spark to them. There's your fame-seeking lightning guy, your Asperger's-y young Taskmaster and so on. The only character I enjoyed was a happy-go-lucky Hawaiian teen who's trying to hold onto his good nature after being transformed into some metal monster with an unfortunate resemblance to the Red Skull.I'm interested in what happens to him next, although I doubt he'll be popular enough to get a full, meaningful story arc. As is, this volume is ok but easily forgotten; it doesn't transcend its cliches. less
