review 1: So as I continue on my learning curve with romance novels I was introduced to No Chance (something I hear a lot usually after asking for a date) but rather than another knockback this book by Christy Reece is a suspense romance. I hear you ask what is suspense romance well it is a romance with a thriller thrown in. If this were a movie it would be one where the two central characters are at like bunnies every so often and the rest of the time blood is being spilt and a mystery uncovered.Gabe Maddox is on Kalamina Island in the South Pacific recuperating from a horrendous ordeal in a time where he had lost his brother and step brother in a mining accident and having been held hostage in Africa. His eyes fall on a beautiful young American women, Skylar James who herself is t... morerying to escape her name and her role in society. Skylar is attracted to Gabe as much as he to her, and even more so as he doesn’t actually know who she is. They get married and Skylar returns to New York to inform her family, with family intervention things go pair shaped for the happy couple.Fast forward eight years and they are brought back together after Skylar has been kidnapped while looking for her mentee Kendra. It is Gabe who works with elite operatives to rescue Skylar, and eventually goes on to find Kendra. But none of this is easy as there is a lot of money being involved in keeping a sexual predator happy with his needs, and he will do anything to keep his mask of respectability intact and that means plenty of blood and guts.It is through adversity that brings Gabe and Skylar back in to each other’s arms and bed. Like all Hollywood movies there is a happy ending which in this care means lots of sex, a kind of James Bond ending to the book. Like all men I see myself as Gabe Maddox, the hero, the man that can do everything perfectly and have the perfect girl in Skylar James. There is plenty of action in the book of the thriller and sexual variety and it really is a page turner as you want Gabe to get over his stupidness and just tell Skylar he wants to jump her bones but he is like most men, an idiot when he is confronted by the one he loves. This is a wonderful book that has a great pace about it, there is enough romance and sex but not so much that it overrides the plot. I am sure you ladies can leave this book for your partner to read and he will actually love it. Well done Christy Reece you have won over this male sceptic with your writing.
review 2: I presume you know what the book is about, I'm letting you know what I liked or disliked about it. I can see I started this book on 5/19. It was a goofy place to jump in on this series but, well - that happens sometimes. Anyway - about three weeks later and I'm reading the last of the six books. Individual ratings to follow. In summary I recommend the author and the books. I will say that there are aspect of the writing that detracted from the story for me as a reader. I detest repetition in a story and these books do repeat certain elements however not so much that I closed the cover so to speak, deciding not to read another. So, likely if I find it manageable you will too as I have zero tolerance in wasting time.Somewhat disappointing are threads of elements that stay the same. You know what I mean - a "cookie cutter" type of protagonist. The names are different, the bodies are oh so hard (ripped and sweetly defined)... even the same type of character strengths and weaknesses. Elements to the stories have similarities too.But ya know? Sometimes that's okay. there are enough other elements to the story that keep one interested. That's how these books are to me. I hope you enjoy them too. less
