A Natural Remedies Mystery
review 1: there are textbooks about alternative health. There are mystery books. Combine the two? Give me break. I gave this book one star, because the mystery premise was good. The non-editing and the composition was bad. I did not need to hear over over and over the minute details and make-up of every single herb, medicine, food stuff, aliment etc given a mention or a passing glance. I did not care the the main character had organic gronola regurgated from free range chickens raised in a heritage by chanting monks. (well, not quite that bad, but just about). And many glaring inconsistencies in the action. As for the mystery, much was made about the wonderful, marvelous town but it was populated by some very nasty, mean, murderous people. And that includes the police... more on the job. And the list of suspects? Sounded like a FB friend list, there were so many. Every time a new chapter began, another hate filled person joined the suspect list. I finished it because it did have a good premise and I curious who. in the cast of thousands, had did the deed. So far, my worse read for 2012
review 2: so I am not quite finished with the book, although I will finish it today. I have issues with it that I need to point out. 1. It is very cookie cutter. the Aunt gets murdered and the niece inherits....I have read this premise many times. The reader didn't even get a chance to know the aunt a little beforehand, as is typical. This actually mirrors a recent read regarding a niece that inherited her aunt's yoga studio. the secretiveness of the aunts' behaviors, etc.2. If anyone had a break-in, a break-in plus fire, a head injury cause by said break-in, a car accident (once again, the typical run-off- the-road) the police would be acting on those things and not just pushing them aside without a care. The police are to serve the community and not deny a citizen a reasonable look-see into the issues, and having thosse issues repeated toward the same person is not realistic with the police lack of response.3. Every time she meets someone, everytime, she suddenly discusses homeopathic rememdies for what ever ails that person. this alone is annoying but also pulls the reader out of the book. the beginning of the chapter remedies is enough and doesn't have to be replayed throughout. Now on the upside, the mystery of who done it is well done so far.Ok a couple hours later and I have finished reading the novel. I am not impressed and probably won't buy book 2. Like I stated earlier, the police response was unrealistic, as was the push-in-your face herbal rememdies. less
