The Heir Chronicles
review 1: The Dragon Heir is the third and final book in the Heir trilogy, by Cinda Williams Chima, is an incredible fiction novel filled with betrayal, alliances, and sacrifice. Jason Haley and Madison Moss, the two main characters in the novel face numerous challenges, take risks that they don't want to take, and are forced to make some of the biggest sacrifices they are ever going to have to make. The main conflict in this novel is three or four wizard guilds or factions that are all trying to get their hands on a powerful weapon, the Dragonstone. One point that made this book not as good as the previous novels previous in this trilogy are that Linda and Leander have basically nothing to do in the book besides a quick few chapters. Two of Trinity's most powerful wizards, gone... more for pretty much 90% of the book and not even in the final battle! I know that this novel is mainly focused around the few prodigy teens of Trinity, but the two of them, from what I can perceive, just sit in a castle while these teens die trying to save the word! They had absolutely no contact with the rest of them the rest of the novel after their short one to two chapters. This novel is extremely intense, fast-paced, and very very interesting. There are some parts, especially in the middle, where the action kind of stops, and is almost a little boring, but when the action starts picking up again for the final battle, it is rushed and sped by.Throughout the book, pretty much every alliance and bond is tested, trust has been given, and broken, and peculiar alliances are made. In the end, though, The Dragon Heir is an spectacular book, but just isn't as thrilling as compared to the first two.
review 2: Although the copy on the back of the book said that this was the conclusion to the 'trilogy' (Chima has since written two more books in the series) it didn't feel like an ending at all, perhaps why there were two more books written.Chima does well in keeping the plot on the same vein while introducing new ideas into the backstory. There was a little jolt in book two that I wasn't sure where Chima would go with it that has it's resolution in this book. The principle character, Madison Moss, joined the cast in book two and I am glad that Chima did something with her rather then just make her a throw-away. Some other characters don't play big roles in this book and there are some points where the dialogue and the naive way the character is reacting that grate on the reader but overall, the story is consistent in progression and development. less
