review 1: So far Whitney Houston was dealing with a lot of terrible thing 1. Her only daughter Nippy has passed away and when her door bell was ringing and nobody was there she might have thought it was Nippy stopping it states " 'I'll come back soon Mommy,' she said ' I've got to got to L.A. for the Grammys in February, but I'll come see you after that.'" ( This happened on page 7 ) page 9 " The next day, Nippy died. And the days that followed were a seemingly endless blur of grief and pain. There were times when I didn't think I could live through the despair losing my baby girl. I just couldn't believe I would never see her, or hear her voice, in this world again. I still can't believe it. But I did take solace in one thing. On that terrible day, when my doorbell kept ringing in ... morethose hours before Gary's call, I believe it was my beautiful Nippy, keeping her promise to me--that somehow, some way, she came to see me, just as she said she would". Then in the story chapter 2 there was a flash back when she Whitney was a kid and she spoke a lot about her dad for example she said her dad was Determined, Strong, Hard working, faithful and he never stopped protecting his family. So months passed and Whitney's mother has died with a seizer and a stroke and then years have passed Whitney's dad has passed away with a stomach pain and he had stomach cancer it states " In spring of,1952 when I was eighteen, my father went to the hospital because of stomach pains. Exploratory surgery revealed that he had stomach cancer, and it was already advanced that even though he'd only just been diagnosed, it was too late to do anything. Within a week, Daddy was dead."
review 2: A beautiful and heartfelt biography from Whitney's mother Cissie Houston. I'm glad she shared the struggles that Whitney encountered in her professional and personal life as well as the beautiful person Whitney really was. It's easy to sit on the side lines and pass judgement on others without really knowing them or their personal challenges or how they handle them. Looking from the outside, I imagined that Whitney with all her talent and fame led a carefree and happy lifestyle. That's mainly attributed to her being wealthy. This biography truly shows that money can't buy happiness and that other than being relatively free of money woes, the rich and famous share the same struggles as the rest of us. less
