But, her wish doesn't last long when..."cliffhanger" - this book really got me hooked to Devilyn, making me wanted more of him and Caroline as they tried not to bowed to Fates. can't wait for next installation!!!!
review 2: Oh "The Dark King." How I wanted to love you. How I longed to adore you and put you on my favorites shelf. How I strived to find all of your good parts, how how I skimmed your less than stellar parts. Alas. We are not meant to be. So, if you're a fan of romantic romance, go buy this book right now immediately as fast as you can. If you're a fan of insta love, a fan of swooning teenage passionate love, of forbidden love, of loves who are star-crossed and love that is ill-fated, love that is as powerful as it is fateful, then get this book. Read it. LOVE IT. If you are a fan of a plot, a fan of character development, a fan of consistent writing, you may want to hold off on this book. Likes: I still really like Caroline and Devilyn. I want them to get to their happy ending. But I wanted to slap them both in the face. I just wished that they loved each other for reasons other than they are soul mates. It isn't until most of the way through this book (the SECOND ONE, lest we forget) that Devilyn sits down with Caroline and "asks her a million questions." Good thinking, considering the whole been passionately in love for two books now. Oh sorry, we're in the what did I like portion. Um, I liked Tatiana and her characters development. I liked the good family dynamics, with all the parental love and whatnot. I liked Famous the dog.Didn't work as well for me: I think my biggest gripe was how repetitive this book was. So many people were described as unimaginably beautiful until it lost all meaning for me. And listening to Caroline and Devilyn's internal dialogue about their feelings for each other was getting a bit on the STAB ME IN THE EYE WITH A FORK SO I DO NOT HAVE TO READ THIS AGAIN side. Just a titch. I just wanted them to say something new, but it was all the same. When Caroline finally gets fed up with Devilyn running hot and cold, I finally felt a bit of interest. It did not last long. Also, the inconsistent characterizations. Like, Caroline dreading going camping because of the lack of amenities, then Rowan comments that most girls don't like camping, and she responds she's not most girls. Uh, YEAH YA ARE. And I won't even count how many times they go back and forth about their feelings for each other. Also on the repetitive note: this book is basically a repeat of the first. In fact, I think we might have moved backwards a bit, plot wise. Nothing at all of note went on in this book, a few hints of things to come, and some (90% of the book) pining for each other. Oh sure they talked to a few people, a few people made threats, Caroline is marginally closer to understanding who she is, but I just didn't see any jumps or even steps forward in the story arch. Devilyn was a bit disappointing, too. I was hoping for a bit more Snape-- dark but doing good things, heart in the right place; and instead we get a possessive, jealous, and condescendingly protective guy with temper issues. Awww, how romantic. And there's literally like, thirty seconds spent on him being king, which is one of the reasons I picked this series up. But he has virtually no contact with his court, does no ruling, there's no insight into his world outside of Caroline. Drat. Well, anyway. You could do worse if you're looking for a paranormal romance. You could also probably do better. less
