review 1: Received this book from Goodreads Giveaways.I enjoyed the books detailed account of the family's life; unplanned pregnancy, drug use, family friction, and how they dealt with the issues at hand. The book came with twists and turns up to the very end.It started a little slow for me, but I eventually got into it and wanted to find out what happened. This book is for those who enjoy reading about a family's everyday trials and tribulations. The family was in a sad situation when the story began, but the reader was able to watch them grow and change as different consequences developed.A well written family drama. Each character has his/her own unique characteristics....sad, funny and warm.
review 2: Clare Dowling has done a great job with this novel in creating ... morea 'warts and all' account of a normal Dublin family at Christmas time. To me the characters were so realistic and the themes they dealt with, I'm sure many readers would be able to relate, issues such as unplanned pregnancy or drug abuse in a non-judgmental way. I really enjoyed reading this book, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading Christmassy books in the run up to the holidays. less
