review 1: Jewelene Henshaw (who is such a minx and hoyden)lives with her brother Sir James Henshaw. The Honorable Oscar Robendale (Robbie)their cousin and guardian until Sir James comes of age are quite the trio. The father was a gambler and had left them in debt. They come up with a scheme to make money so they can run their horse in a race since they are certain the horse can win. Jewels becomes a faro dealer known as Babette to help make some money and which causes some problems.Enter the Marquis of Lyndhurst who is turning 30 and needs a wife and heir. He is a rake and libertine and feels all women want him just for his riches. He decides to offer for Jewels since he knows they are in need of money but decides to change places with his cousin so Jewels thinks the cousin is him. ... moreNeedless to say he's sorry he did that for as you can guess, he falls for Jewels. Add to the mix, the nefarious Lord Omsbury who wants Jewels for himself and will stop at nothing to get her.The plot thickens and the fun begins. The book has it all-funny, passion, danger and fabulous characters. True Claudy style, you're pulled in from the beginning to the end. I enjoyed this book so much I hated the story to end.
review 2: I was gifted Claudy Conn’s Rogues, Rakes, and Jewels to review. Being a huge fan of Jane Austen, with Emma and Pride and Prejudice being two of my favorite romance novels I was thrilled when Claudy sent me her regency romance to review. This novel had everything; danger, a villain, twists, and more secrets between characters then I could count. I really enjoyed the story and the strong female lead. One thing that I will say about Conn’s Regency romance is this is no Jane Austen. There was serious heat in the book between the main characters. That just made this an even better regency piece. I recommend it for a fun and delightful read. I will look to read her other Regency romances now. less
