review 1: I had not read a Clive Cussler book in some time and it felt good to be back with my "old friends" at NUMA. What I enjoy most about this author is he takes an historical or current event , veils it in fiction and tops it off with lots of descriptions of distant travel and oceanography. This book was no different, with the real shortage of natural resources, China's lack of transparency and greed and then the familiar Numa characters saving the day of course.
review 2: I've not read a Clive Cussler novel before. ... more characters weren't anything amazing but they carried the story. Ultimately you have a lot of fun. I liked it enough to know I'll have to read more. The only thing that really bugged me about the book was having Dirk Pitt running around with his son Dirk Pitt and just constantly refer to them as "Pitt and Dirk" which, while you can figure it out after the first few times, you shouldn't have to figure it out becasue it is silly to have characters have the same name unless you're writing 100 Years of Solitude. less
