review 1: I have to develop a different rating systems for books like these - mind candy - so readable, often silly but full of fun and adventure. I think I'll call them Quickreads instead of Goodreads. The latter have to have something literary or deep or revealing to get 5 stars, books like The Tombs and most thrillers don't have higher literary qualities and not much to savor or remember, but wow, they are just so good to taste mentally that I devour them. Thus, this typical Remi and Sam story gets 4 stars even though the characters are totally contrived and the plots predictable.
review 2: I read quite a bit of history, science and technical books and I like to take a break with good detective, mystery and adventure type books that are fast paced. I have now read sev... moreeral of Cussler's books and thought it was probably time to review some. I saw some of the reviews and most were favorable, some weren't. I enjoyed it because it had action and locals that kept it moving at a quick pace. I thought there was one part near the end that was a bit over the top, but signature, so I won't tell you what it is. I will continue on with the Fargo series and then perhaps some of the others as well. less
