review 1: I don't remember the last Fargo book being this terrible. As usual, the storyline was pretty much what you would expect of a Cussler novel, so no particular complaints there. The thing that really got me was the dialogue. It was so scripted, it felt like I was watching Top Gear USA. Or the first rehearsal of a play about the Fargos, but not actually starring them. The bad 'guy' was so high-schoolian (new word, don't call me on it), that I found myself shaking my head in disbelief. Add to that the bizarre little episode where the bad guys get their butts kicked (yeah, not really a spoiler) and I just was at a loss for words (hence the need to make up new ones). I honestly don't know who rubber-stamped this for publishing, but seriously, you need to stop riding the Cussler w... moreave and get back to producing stuff of a little higher caliber.
review 2: As always, adequate. It's difficult to impossible to rate the Fargo series any higher due to their formulaic nature and cardboard characters, but they serve their purpose. I listen to then in audio format with ever reliable Scott Brick doing the reading and it makes for a decent, undemanding of attention entertainment to walk and bike to. This one might have ended 2 discs ago, it sort of dragged on at the end, but it was fine. The beginning (the historical prologue) is always the best part. From there on it's just a sort of bland mildly entertaining adventure. less
