review 1: I really wanted to like this book..I didn't think Dinah was a brat at all..that is not what bothered me.What bothered me was nothing I mean nothing is explained.I have no idea why Dinah's father hated her, I don't know how her half sister fits in to it, I don't know how she eventually becomes queen with her father trying to kill her.Seriously nothing is resolved.I loved the descriptions of Wonderland . It was so disappointing. I got this free and basically that is all it is worth..Someone must not know that part of writing a book is having a plot and at least answering a few questions the reader might have. I gave it a 3 because well the descriptions of wonderland are imaginative. This story can be better it just needs to have more..Give us more plot !!Less f... moreluff.
review 2: I was skeptical at first glance. I am not a fan of the fantasy genre with the exception of C.S. Lewis' Narnia Chronicles. I had previously read Oakes first novel, "Elly in Bloom" and was hooked by the end of the first paragraph. "Queen of Hearts" was a difficult novel to put down once the reading began. Oakes makes the character Dinah relatable to her readers. It is easy to identify with the inner thoughts and perceptions of this very complicated character. I enjoyed the character development and vivid descriptions laced throughout the story. The twists and turns we not, in my opinion, very predictable. It was a very engaging read. Although I wanted more from the ending, I realize this the first installment in the series and look forward to reading the next novel, "Wendy Darling." less
