review 1: I would not give this book a high, strong, 4 star rating but really more of a 3.7/3.8. Interesting story set in Zambia where an American human rights lawyer tries to bring justice upon a privileged Zambian for raping a 15 year old girl with Down's Syndrome. With corruption rampant throughout the Zambian government the coalition of lawyers and social workers face death threats, stolen evidence, voodoo healings, and arcane legal maneuverings. Add in a love story, prostitution, and a run for the U. S. Presidency, this story did keep me engaged. For me, it was good but not necessarily very good hence the 3.7 rating. Would recommend for a quick, easy read.
review 2: Kuyeya, an intellectually challenged teenage girl, is found wandering the streets of Lusaka, Z
... moreambia. She has been raped. At first, no one knows who she is or where she lives but Zoe Fleming, an American lawyer and Joseph, a police officer, discover that she has been living with a prostitute who owes Kuyeya's mother for saving her live. Now they have to find out who did this. Was it random or was Kuyeya specifically targeted. When the evidence leads them to Darious, the son of a rich and powerful couple, they fear that a fair trial will be impossible. Was Darious trying to cure his AIDS when he raped Kuyeya, as the medicine man told him to do?Meanwhile, Zoe and Joseph are becoming close but Joseph has a secret that could keep them apart forever. Addison did a wonderful job with this book. The story stays interesting throughout, it's well-written, and the characters have the necessary depth to make them believable. I loved that it taught me things about the people and he landscape of Zambia, a country I knew absolutely nothing about. less
