review 1: I received this book as part of the Free Reads program of Good Reads.The writing itself, or craft of this story was excellent,and a truer account of a bright,disturbed adolescent would be more difficult to find.But I wanted more of a resolution/solution to the story line.Even if the reading level was not too high for my 8th graders, I couldn't consider even giving this book to them or to the guidance counselor to share.Besides the active sex life of the main character (which to be honest is more realistic than I admit knowing) this book is a "head" book, not dealing with drugs, but continually dealing what the main character feels or thinks and less with what may have actually happened.Oh yeah,to put the nuts on top of this sundae,the main character is an unreliable narra... moretor. Of course, and maybe rightly, because of the main characters' conflicting emotions the time sequence is out of order. I'd re-read this book for the language and excellent writng as well puzzling out what is real or fantasy in the main character's head,but I wouldn't put it in the hands of impatient plot-driven adolescent. I,as an adult, just held on long enough to finish,even while appreciating the glorious writng style of Courtney Eldridge.
review 2: I won this book from a goodreads giveaway. Try as I might, I cannot get into this book. The copy I received has no page numbers, so I cannot tell you how far into I got, but I must admit it was only maybe a third of the book. The fact that there was no quotation marks confused me; it's quite possibly the reason I disliked this book So much. The chapters jumped around, and it was hard to make a connection to any of the characters. I must say, I was very disappointed because the synopsis of this book was great. less
