review 1: After the intensity of Some Girls Are, I was eager to start Cracked Up To Be. However, I am a little disappointed. I found Parker to be a very unlikeable character. She had everything and started to isolate herself after a traumatic event, which was not really her fault. I didn’t feel for her, I wasn’t rooting for her and Jake...Her attitude quite frankly annoyed me to bits. I didn’t really like any of the other characters either, except for Chris. He had some redeeming qualities. It felt like this book was incredibly incomplete. Maybe I set my expectations too high. The writing was still engaging and it was a quick, short read, but I prefer Some Girls Are, to this book.
review 2: Every time I pick up a Courtney Summers book I think "Okay, there's no way
... moreI'm going to like this one as much as the last ones," and every time I'm proven wrong. A great story of a witty, wry, intelligent teenage girl in full-blown self destruct mode, fueled by guilt, and all the people she loves trying to stop her from destroying her future completely. (Spoiler..kind of) Am I the only one who really wanted her to get back together with Chris? I mean, I know that was never the point of the story, and it wouldn't really make sense, and he's kind of an air-head jock, but I just got the sense that he knew her so well and loved her so deeply that even though my head knew it was wrong, my heart was really rooting for that implausible ending. less

Well written, easy read, sad at times. Great for high school students.
