review 1: I thought this book was okay compared to the stories I've read this year. For example, while the friendship between these girls seems really strong, it's not really relatable. I mean, a relationship that is created through a summer program across the world from where they live and is enhanced only throughout that program as they can't seem to be able to meet up elsewhere? Charming, but not very realistic. However, I did enjoy the ending in which their friendship survived throughout the years, despite the fact that they may not have seen each other on a daily basis. Cyber relationships and long-distance relationships such as these are in fact relatable and also appealing. All in all, a good book recommended to teenage girls throughout the world seeking to escape reality and... more embrace the hopes and dreams that this book allows.
review 2: The Dreams of Significant Girls is technically historical fiction but could really be taking place at any time if it wasn't for the back stories about the girls parents which firmly places it in the 70s. Three girls from three different backgrounds go to boarding school for the summer in Switzerland and end up living together. The novel jumps from these three different perspectives which is engaging and unique. The novel moves quickly and easily through the first 2/3s and then significantly slows and becomes less believable. Everything is tied up neatly and happily with even an epilogue so the reader can know what ultimately becomes of the girls. less
