review 1: 4-4 1/2 stars. Exciting romantic suspense. I enjoyed characters--they were strong all around. There is a lot of "I'm not good enough for you" from both sides. Nice balance of action/suspense and romance that kept the plot moving, and made it a quick, exciting read. I did not read all the other book from this series, and I followed it just fine. I really enjoy this authors writing style--it has a different "feel" than a lot of what is out there.
review 2: I'm torn. I liked the story but... I didn't love the heroine and that's not the norm for me with this author.Drake and Jasmine. Of the three friends Drake is the darkest which I really love about the men in this series.Jasmine catches Drake's eye at his Vegas Casino, she's there to steal intel from him ... moreand the plan is to get him to take her to his office. At first he doesn't take the bait but after she's accosted by a man claiming to be a bounty hunter, he comes to her rescue. There is a lot going on in this story. Motivations of the characters unfold as the action progresses but it's safe to say Jasmine has secrets and isn't who or what you might think at first. *********Spoilers Below*************Jasmine - Inconsistent. Started out confident, capable, mysterious, possible thief but her façade fell apart. And really, when you find out later what she was doing there and why, it doesn't make sense that she decided to throw the entire plan aside.She was flighty. One minute, "I'm getting out of here/I don't want anyone to get hurt/fine I'll go with you but I won't tell you what's going on even though you have it half-way figured out." She was all over the place.I was annoyed by her constantly running away from Drake.It didn't seem convincing that she was so good at what she did, but at times she would just let other people lead her around like a puppy.Drake - Damn it, I had such high hopes for him, he was so incredibly sexy and closed off. I really wanted to watch him and Jasmine fall for each other and peel off the protective layers but the romance just sort of happens. Then, he sort fell apart as a hero towards the end in my opinion. Even indulging in "I'm bad for her, she got hurt on my watch, I have to leave her alone to keep her safe". WTF is that? Cynthia Eden's heroes are always so "I don't give a damn, you're mine and I'm keeping you with me, I'LL KEEP HER SAFE".Would have liked more relationship development for the couple.I did not like Victor, at all.****************End Spoilers**********************I didn't love Jasmine, but I didn't hate her. I do like some things about her like when she had to make a choice for Drake, she chose him without reservation.The mystery/suspense plot was engaging. The sex is always hot with this author so that's a plus too. There is another Mine book coming out and of course I will read it. I have an idea of whose story it might be but it would be a huge spoiler for me to mention it so fingers crossed less
