review 1: I have to admit I did not care for this one so much, I am sorry to say. Only because the “mystery” felt too “corporate”/”white collar” that it didn’t really hold my interest. For instance, the main character, Orion Nanapoulos would say something like, “If I am the CEO, but we reorganize things so that it’s under a different corporation name and so-and-so becomes the CFO. . . . .” zzzzz, by this time, I am zoning out and my brain is going “la la la la la.” The elements I *DID* like, however, included the heroine (90-something Victoria Trumbull – a character) and the setting (Cape Cod).
review 2: This is the tenth in the cozy series featuring Victoria Trumball, the 92 year old part-time deputy, poet and full time Island institution. ... more In this offering, Victoria reluctantly rents a room in her family manse to the engineer in charge of laying fiber optic cable on the island. When a body turns up in a trench, Orion's company begins to have problems. The body is that of a potential investor and Orion has to scramble to find additional funding. At the urging of Dorothy Roche, a small investor in the company, Orion considers a young venture capitalist, but is hesitant about the fees. After a sinister attack, Orion takes matters into his own hands.Meanwhile, Victoria has been visited by the dead man's sons, who want her to unofficially find the killer. Victoria's not at her best, being under medication and is a little confused by all the technology and finance involved.This entry doesn't feature Martha's Vineyard as much as previous titles, but the story moves quickly. The plot's a little confusing on this one, but there is quite a bit of wry humor throughout. Another solid book in the series. less
