review 1: I really loved this book. As someone who's family emigrated to another country when I was five I could relate to may of Anna's emotions and feelings. The relationship between the three main characters felt honest and true to the way girls and women relate to one another. Also like the slight melancholy in the authors tone. Its an easy read but one that stayed with me after I'd finished the last page.
review 2: Beautiful and tragic coming of age story centered on the lives of three Polish girls from Kielce who spend their summers together as teenagers and then drift apart before being reunited in the midst of a shocking event. The author is the definition of "write what you know"; I don't think anyone who didn't grow up in 1990s Poland could have painted a pictu
... morere of romanticized teenage small town life there as well as she does in this book. She also creates three unique characters, switching the storytelling between each of them in equal parts which makes for a thorough understanding and of both the events in the novel as well as the characters themselves, so our interpretation of everything is well-rounded rather than one-sided. Definitely a force of a novel. less
