review 1: I really want to like this series but there are a lot of cringe inducing elements that carry itself in each book. 1. Nina and how tough she is. Mind showing us instead of constantly bragging about it?2. Trying to be hip language. Stop forcing it. It's not cool. This one has its special brand of cringe though. It doesn't make sense. I don't get why Casey has to sacrifice herself for a kid. Isn't she centuries old. What does it matter if she is biologically sixteen. By that logic, Keith would be thirty six instead of some centuries. You can't just choose your age willy nilly whenever it suits. I kind of cringe everytime Casey tried to be self-sacrificing. Naomi isn't really a kid is she? Why isn't she developmentally centuries old. I guess what I'm trying to say is, she's no... moret a kid! I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here. This brings me to the point, her self-sacrificing attitude is too forced. It is combined with Casey being a hip step mother. Gawd. After bonding, Casey's matehood with Clay is just perfect, just to hammer it home. It kind of hurt it because the writing just wasn't up to par. It wasn't a seamless relationship. It came off as a here, reader, accept it because it is written. Anyways, the book is like the others. It has whacky characters. I hoped it would get better but it is the same. It isn't horrible but it isn't amazing either. It is just alright. I kind of want to stop reading whenever the characters, *cough* Nina *cough* talk about how tough they are. They don't show that though. They just keep trash talking and it gets old real fast. Anyways, the story follows Wanda's sister, Casey. She is working as a glorified baby sitter to rich spoiled heiresses. During one of her working nights, she bumps into Clayton, who spills demon blood on her. This triggers her transformation. It turns out, the blood belongs to Clay's mate. She is now connected to her. Hildegard sold her soul to keep her youth and kept from being called back to hell by mating with Clay. She came to him in the middle of the night so he wasn't given a choice. Additionally, she has his child, her niece, hostage. Casey solves it with the help of Archibald. They live happily ever after and the reader is treated to some cringe-worthy dialogue between the centuries old teenager and Casey, her new mother.
review 2: If I just wanted a story about sex with a bad plot, highly repetitive and bad dialogue, I would have rented a porn flick. The two main characters, Casey and Clay agonize over and over and over (I could go on) about what they should do and why they should be the one to sacrifice her or himself to same the other. This book was highly predictable right down to it being a child he was always talking to on the phone. And Casey continually getting into verbal battles with Nina was too constant. Yes, I got the point, Casey now loved to battle and Nina was a good target, but really how many times did she have to try to provoke Nina, and shouldn't Nina have better control by now, especially when she knew Casey couldn't control herself in the beginning. Isn't that like getting furious at a parrot spouting bad phases it was taught. less
