review 1: I can never pass up a good love triangle book, so when I read the synopsis and saw it: 1) had a beach setting, 2) had a love triangle, and 3) was a NA contemporary, I knew I had to read it.I really enjoyed this book. I did find something slightly off with the writing style; it felt a bit juvenile at times, but I was able to ignore that and really enjoy the story between Lexie, Eddie, and Daniel. I did have an issue with how the end just cut off. It didn't cut off to a point where I didn't receive plot resolution; it was just an abrupt way to end the book. When we first meet Lexie, she has just moved from Illinois to Florida to escape her recent heartbreak of losing her fianceé... to her sister. Ouch. She meets her surfer next door neighbor, Eddie, who is downright sexy, fl... moreirty, and oozes confidence. She is instantly attracted to him, but reminds herself she wants to steer clear of men for the time being. However, on the first day of her new job she meets Daniel, who is shy, sweet, and also good-looking.Personally, I liked Daniel instantly. I don't usually go for the bad boys though. There's something about a good, sweet guy who is willing to do anything for you. And just because he's a good, 'safe' guy doesn't mean he Lexie don't have chemistry. It's just a different kind from what her and Eddie have.I kind of saw Eddie and Lexie have more of a physical attraction going on, where Lexie starts developing feelings for Daniel that she can't ignore. There is alot of tension in this book that I really enjoyed reading, but wow- Daniel and Eddie are complete polar opposites of each other. Where Eddie is confident and cocky, Daniel is unsure and insecure. I have to admit that did drive me a little crazy at parts in the book. Then again, she was kind of leading them both on, so I can understand his insecurity, especially since he said Eddie always gets the girls and has been burned in the past.Overall, it was a quick, light read with relatively no angst. Madison didn't overdo Lexie's heartbreak or turn the story into a heavy one and I really liked that. But there is not a whole lot of plot development, it's a very basic storyline of two guys falling for the same girl and forcing her to make a choice. *I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review*
review 2: My, oh my. When the love triangle in this story was first brought to light, I braced myself for an emotional roller coaster. I definitely got emotional, but not in the way I was expecting. With a love-scarred heroine, a hottie coworker, and a egotistical womanizer all in the mix, it was bound to get ugly, especially when they all live right next to each other. Lexie's decision to head to Florida so she could escape the drama and upheaval that resulted from her broken engagement didn't turn out remotely as smooth and wake-free as she'd hoped. I have to say right off the bat, this love triangle was without a doubt the simplest one for me to make up my mind on. Usually I'm a little torn between the characters, and to a certain extent bad-boy Eddie playing the scorchingly sexy temptation while Daniel was the gorgeous knight in shining armor did make them have contrasting appeal. But what started out as Eddie's cocky sexuality quickly turned into him just being a complete and total ass at every turn, to the point I was really wanting to strangle all of the characters for not telling him where to shove his heartless, narcissistic comments (refer to earlier comment about my emotional state). Thankfully Lexie had a career and the interest of Daniel to keep her otherwise occupied, because every time Eddie came in with what I guess was his version of suave and sexy flirtation, it had the opposite affect on me. He wasn't at all a temptation in my mind, because his entire world revolved around him regardless of who got hurt in the process. I don't know if Eddie was really meant to be a villainous character, but that's all he came across as for me because I just didn't buy his few moments of sensitivity at all. Daniel for me was a completely different story. He'd been burned (and don't even get me started on HOW he got his heart broken), and he wasn't ready to trust Lexie with his heart completely just as she was cautious of her own. I can't say I felt an intense connection between them, because I think character development as a whole could have been a little better here, but they had a sweet romance blooming. Despite all of their past hurt, they were able to give each other something they both needed, and thanks to his harsh personality, the sexual tension that antagonist Eddie provided didn't overshadow Daniel's allure. There was plenty of drama and suspense surrounding Lexie's love life thanks to Eddie's persistent attempts to lure her in, and of course her sister's betrayal had to be dealt with eventually. After the dust settled and Lexie figured out what she really wanted, though, things worked out for the best. There wasn't enough real heartfelt emotion and depth to make this story wow me, but it was a decent read and would be a fun escape for those who enjoy lots of angst with their romance! less
