review 1: Wow. As the plot unfolded, I couldn't believe what I was reading. At times, I was disgusted and wanted to throw it away, but I was drawn back to it. The story is told in a matter of fact, non judgmental kind of way, with dry facts being told. A newspaper report is often more emotional when describing such events. Which events? I won't spoil it for you. Oh no. You will need to read it for yourself.
review 2: One the one hand, this book is interesting and just the right amount of weird and morbid to catch my interest and keep it. I actually rather enjoyed the main thread about the museum and the Doctor (and associated asides), but the Madalena and Mauro thread grated on me. I noticed at several points in the book certain views expressed to do with gender roles, t
... morehe importance of beauty in love etc and whether that's just there to show how those certain characters thought, or as how society makes one think (which since it was so pervasive and treated as a generalisation might be the case) I don't know, but I didn't care for it. Being someone with low self esteem I can especially see how Madalena could be affected by it, but the set up seems somewhat uneven - as if love is based on attractiveness and little else. This is a personal peeve of mine as I said, so to anyone else it might not even be noticeable, much less an issue. less

My, my. What a morbid little book. And how very bizarre. Slightly let down by its ending though...

Outo...hyvin outo kirja, mutta niin sanotusti loistava valinta Halloween-kuukausiteemaani!

So good! Dark, funny, sick, moving and fabulous. One of my favourite reads.
