review 1: Reviewed by RobinBook provided by the publisher for reviewReview originally posted at Romancing the BookWhat do you do when life hasn’t turned out the way you imagined it to? Your boyfriend Adam has turned into a jerk and just dumped you very publicly which turned out to be pretty ugly. You have a dead-end job…Well if you are Hannah Sugarman you take your passion for cooking and turn it into a new career path.I found this to be a very positive attitude type of book. Giving you the encouragement that most of us tend to need from time to time to take that next step and change all that is not going right in our lives. Hannah takes her zest for cooking and starts an underground supper club. They are a little on the illegal side because they are in homes or unlikely pl... moreaces. There are no health inspections; they are competition for the restaurants that do things by the book and have the legal licenses. Underground supper clubs have become big everywhere despite that they are rather harmless. I think that this story concept is very fun and edgy.I really loved that Hannah was the girl next door, someone you were comfortable getting to know. She like most others grew and learned from her past. It is nice to see the growth and learning in stories as it makes that seem more realistic. Ms. Bate’s did an awesome job describing the food because believe me it made me hungry. This probably wouldn’t be a good book to read if you are on a diet. Then again maybe it would force you to change that which is wrong and loose that weight. It always tends to be a favorite read with good food, good friends and positive likable characters that go outside the box to find what they want out of life. This is a very quick read. The storyline moves along nicely. This is a great book to pack for the beach or a lazy day at home. The recipes in the back are worth looking at twice.
review 2: Absolutely loved this book! As a DC resident it was so much fun reading about a character living in my own backyard. It made me relate to the story that much more. Hannah's character is so lovable and genuine that its kind of hard not to get wrapped up in her life immediately. Definitely would recommend this book, especially for any foodies out there like me. Great writing! I could barely put the book down. less
