review 1: A nice read following the twilight romance recipe (sometimes in my opinion, a little too close).Other than that, it was quirky and fun with a nice original take on the vampire and werewolf mythology. Both Jay Dee and Tanis are likeable and don't afraid to display emotions or temper. You feel for the characters, you root for them and by the end you are involved in a rather complicated tale of inner species politics.Didn't care for the abrupt ending, I felt it was there just for the sake of it and I can say for sure I'll pick up the next book!
review 2: Forbidden Alliance: A Werewolf's Tale5 stars YA (recommend 16+) --Contains mild language and mild sexual content, innuendos as well as mild sex scenesIf your looking for a good romance, love vampires and werewolve
... mores, want a strong storyline, and intriguing characters that will have you wrapped up in their world and wanting more then this story is for you. When she was just a small child, 17-year-old Jay Dee Lightfoot washed ashore near a reservation of werewolves. Taken in by the alphas of the pack she was loved and cared for as their own, but not all of the pack felt the same. Being different from the others left her the outcast of the pack. Jay Dee doesn't let it get to her though. Her family's not wealthy but their not dirt poor either. They're an average family. She's a strong character both physically, being a werewolf herself, and mentally. Jay Dee had never met a vampire until a small group of vampires moved to the area. She meets her fist vampire in class at school, and he is not at all what she was expecting. Tanis Ashton has lived over 300 years having been turned vampire against his will by his own brother. The British vampire is an arrogant, self-conceited male who has moved with his family to a small reservation town because of his sister's lack of self-control when it comes to feeding. He sees the whole area as beneath him and lacking in class. He's not happy with the current circumstances and, to top it off, the area is infested with werewolves, creatures he's secretly always found to be inferior. That is until he meets Jay Dee.Author Dani Ayusso, puts an added spin on the tale in that for a large part of the book, Tanis doesn't realize Jay Dee is a wolf. He's under the impression she's a human. She never lies to him or tries to deceive him, he just simply doesn't see it. He's star struck by Jay Dee. She's nothing like he's ever known. She's caring, considerate, honest, always thinking of others, forgiving beyond reason, and yet still strong and independent. But little do either of them know, Jay Dee is much more than just the white wolf in a pack of brown werewolves and their role together is prophesied. They may be in the dark, but others are not and will stop at nothing to see that the two of them never fulfill the prophecy. Ayusso's characters build and grow evolving as the story progresses. The banter between the characters is entertaining and adds a relatable human aspect to immortal supernatural beings. There are several subcharacters. Jay Dee's brother, Jarvis, plays a strong role in the book. He's one of those characters you just can't help but love. The story is packed full of mystery, a strong and believable romance, secrets and lies, danger and obstacles. It's well written, easy to follow and unique in its own right. The world created in this story is relatable and believable. Ayusso's style of writing is fresh and unique. I very much enjoyed this book and anxiously await the next installment. This is the first book in the series, and the ending left me wanting more right then. The cliff hanger at the end is nail biting worthy, yet the ending is still smoothly wrapped up. It's an excellent start to the series giving you a good taste of what's to come and a solid foundation for the world created and base plot line. --this book was provided to me by the author at no charge for the purpose of an honest review. However, this is one I was glad to have been offered to read. I would be happy to pay for this one. less
