review 1: There is talent and skills involved (one extra star for this)but...This could be named dystopia only nominally. World building is nonexistent. We get to see two of the few cities left on the planet, the only places where people could survive and see:pails of mail by the door, hot water in the bathroom, coffee and bacon for breakfast, sneakers bought at the store (WTF?). Where all those things come from? China? I kinda suspect that bacon is made from pigs, who live on the farms, pigs need feed, which grows on the fields. Where all of those things? Vampires are kinda pathetic creatures here: centuries old but behave as totally contemporary persons, no human skills, either crazy sociopaths or philanthropic to no end. 78% DNF
review 2: I'm not gonna say too much a
... morebout the story, other than that it's a mix between X-Men and Van Helsing (in a good way, IMO).The plot was actually pretty good, although I think it was a bit much near the end. Too much action and too little character interaction. The real strength of the story, was Mik and Ash's relationship. I totally loved Ash (he pushed ALL my buttons, you could say), so I'm gonna dive into the second novel just because of these two guys ;)I'm gonna give it 4 stars, even though, the second half of the book did not live up to my expectations. less
