review 1: Supernatural short stories with lots of sazon! Wonderful writing that captured the voice of each of the characters! I LOVED how fresh the stories and the characters were and how much passion was behind the narratives. The characters were so familiar yet unique. It's like seeing a person from your neighborhood all of your life and then getting a look into their minds that makes you look at them in a different way. I WANT MORE OF THESE!
review 2: Quick review: I like this collection a lot. I am not a big fan of noir, but Older does a fine job of combining grit and horror with a bit of fantasy. This is how "urban fantasy" should be done: with characters that actually live in the city, with the struggles of city life intact and integrated into the story. I admire
... more the way Older tells his stories; his first-person narrators are not great at telling stories, but they tell us what need to know. It adds a little extra heft to the stories, a bit of realism that increases your immersion and empathy. A few of the stories fell short for me, but most of them are a harsh pleasure to read. less

Beautiful, strange, lyrical, and creepy. Well worth a read for fans of horror/the supernatural.
