review 1: Not a perfect book, but then none of them are. Given how little I (and most English-language readers) know about Pakistan, Mueenuddin strikes an excellent balance; his stories are familiar enough to be relatable, and yet steeped enough in Pakistani culture to transport the reader to a place that is starkly different from the Western world. His characters are deeply flawed but ultimately admirable, and very deeply realized, considering the short length of the stories. Highly recommended for anyone with an interest in Pakistan or the Eastern world in general.
