review 1: The biggest problem with this autobiography is that through all the depressing revelations of Hammond's personal struggles he tells, there isn't that one cathartic moment in the book that brings everything together. There aren't enough behind-the-scene stories to make this a tell-all on SNL . The non-linear presentation of events seems to indicate a purposeful intent, that this isn't just a biography. But upon finishing the book, I had to ask myself why I had read it. There are interesting moments and Hammond's reveal of childhood trauma is worth applauding. But Hammond spends too much time on moments and details that are oddly banal while briskly moving over much more poignant events involving his trials, not that I blame him. I think I would rather listen to Ham... moremond discuss his life in a longform interview of some sort than read this book because the man does have a story worth knowing. The book just didn't do it that much justice.
review 2: I hate quitting a book half way thru, but I couldn't stick with it. Being a huge SNL fan I thought I would like it. The beginning spent too much time on childhood and baseball, then once it moved on it was all over the place, short clips for shock value. Too much random back and forth to paint a picture or even a timeline. Apparently all we need to know is he has no control when it comes to alcohol and when that doesn't work he cuts himself. less

I really enjoyed this book. It was sad, funny and informative. I'd recommend it to any SNL fan.
It was alright. Not the greatest written book but it was an interesting read of a human life.
Shows that everyone may have their shortcomings. It just means we are human.
Really intense read from an unlikely source.
Loved it!
