review 1: I have never really been the kind of reader who grabs a book and reads it cover-to-cover in a single sitting. And I'm still not because it took my 2 sittings, but that's fine because I've never really been the kind of reader who grabs a book and reads it cover-to-cover in a couple sittings. So ... #humblebrag.Darrell Hammond has a story that is unlike even the more dysfunctional comics. From most comedians you expect a little bullying, isolation, sadness, parents getting divorced, lots of drinking, drug use, and then sometimes sobriety. Darrell swapped out his parents getting divorced for his mom straight up abusing him. Otherwise, he fit the mold. A book with a great story is very readable, a book with a great story that breaks out anecdotes as their own mini-chapter... mores makes a book even more readable. This was just so readable! It was as if it was in english which is the language I read! (Spoiler alert: this book IS in english!)I am a comedy nerd, which is why I decided to read about a comic that I'm not even necessarily a huge fan of, but I think even casual SNL fans (or Bill Clinton fans) will really enjoy this book.
review 2: Mr. Hammond only spends 6-10 pages talking about the abuse that he endured as a child. So don't buy this book if you are looking for 100 pages of abuse stories. Mr. Hammond does explain in the authors note that he does not remember some things that have happened in his life. There is a lot of talk about SNL and baseball and people he has met over the years, but it's well written and with humor. Everything that is talked about in the book severs a purpose. A few things that bother me about this book; Mr. Hammond does not talk a lot about his sister and if she was abused or if she tried to help him. He did not give updates on his relationship with his daughter (he does say his daughter introduced him to unconditional love so I guess they have a good relationship) and ex-wife. I sincerely hope that Mr. Hammond writes another book. less

Darrell Hammond is clearly not a natural writer, but his story is compelling.
