review 1: My first David Eggers read. I will read more. Alan is a 50-something guy with debts, baggage, and a lump on his neck that he's pretty sure is cancer. He works in sales for a large US-based IT company and is in Saudi Arabia to, essentially, sell a hologram to the king. For most of the book he and his team are just waiting. Waiting for Godot kind of waiting. Concise, well-written, and funny at times. Overall though, a pretty depressing picture of the current global economy and of life in general.
review 2: Quirky. That's my takeaway from this book. I really like Eggers - I read 2 of his nonfiction and have loved both. I am not sure what I was expecting except as I read along, I really wanted something good to happen to this guy. Nothing seemed to work out
... moreand the ending left me way up in the air. There were so many what abouts. Everything was so repressed - in him as well as Saudi Arabia of course. Three stars because I didn't hate it but didn't love it either! less

Technically I ditched halfway through. Didn't care enough to to read the end...

a stark, bleak parable. Great writing. Sorry life.
