review 1: Apparently by 2022, we are all screwed! The author made a passionate case arguing, that 1. the auto-bailout is an $80,000,000,000 theft 2. the politics are all about crony capitalism and that the president wants to pay for welfare state by cutting into warfare state 3. the Keynesian welfare state will end with political paralysis and our economy is trapped in crippling $54,000,000,000,000 debt which is leveraged 3.6 times that of our GDP and 4. by 2022, the number of unemployed adults will increase to 113,000,000 (who won't be paying taxes). Mr. Stockman's solution is radical in favor of free markets. Perhaps. This is a very passionate discussion. This is a voluminous book, and I listened to the audio book by Blackstone and after a few chapters, went straight to Sundown in... more America. Overall a ScaryRead. I like the scholarly indictment of politics of the president and his party, which makes this like thriller but gives you a scare.
review 2: Excellent read for those who want to get a better understanding of how we got here as a country (fiscally) and where we are headed. One of the best book I've read in a long time. A country that is democratic, being controlled financially by a group that does not answer to Congress nor the President is a really good indicator of another law that was passed a few years back that provides for a similar situation (board of review for Medical). We can see how this first group bumbled along, sometimes on their own, sometimes intimidated by Government for their own means. Just think: we can see this in Medical decisions down the road as well . . . mmm, good times coming . . . less
