review 1: A collection of short and fascinating stories from over an extraordinary lifetime, collected into short themes inspired by Attenborough's favourite fauna and flora, and wondrously illustrated from past and present. It ranges from crazy facts about plants and animals to reflections on how they were named, or first introduced to European scientists, or the roles they play in their environment, or...well, they are far ranging and almost all things I didn't know. He missed a few of my own personal favourites among the world's wonders, but it was a joy to see his. A brilliant supplement to his documentaries, and done for radio I know, but the pictures are brilliant and this is just for someone like me whose first love will always be books...
review 2: Really interes... moreting book to accompany the Radio 4 short series. Read the chapter on the large blue butterfly - it is amazing.As an avid reader of all David Attenborough's work, this book is not a disappointment. The fact it can be read in short snippets is great as you don't have to set aside a huge amount of time to read about a wide variety of creatures.I meet him at a book signing last week and he is every bit as fantastic as you would imagine him to be. If you get the chance to meet him go for it! less
